Research Ethics and Academics Department (READ)


FCPS is Fellowship of College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSP) Pakistan. CPSP is a body responsible for post-graduation in Pakistan, maintains postgraduate trainee doctors’ database and conducts examinations. At present CPSP offers fellowship training in 73 specialties.

Subspecialties for FCSP in AFIP
At present AFIP is offering FCPS training in following seven subspecialties of Pathology:
1. Chemical Pathology
2. Haematology
3. Histopathology
4. Immunology
5. Microbiology
6. Nuclear Medicine
7. Virology

Duration of Training
Training in each subspecialty is of four years. One year of this training consists of rotation in all subspecialties other than the subject in which candidate is doing FCPS.

Components of FCPS Training
During the training, each candidate will take three mandatory workshops within first 18 months. These include:
1. Computer and internet skills
2. Research Methodology, Biostatistics and Dissertation Writing.
3. Communication Skills

Dissertation writing / Two Research Articles
During training a candidate will have to write dissertation on topic of choice or two research articles. It should be original work of research that is to be submitted to CPSP at least nine months before candidate wants to appear in final exam.

FCPS-I Qualification

Each candidate is interviewed by board of officers at AFIP.
Final selection list is made purely on merit.
Final list is submitted to GHQ (Medical Directorate) for final approval.

Applications are called for FCPS training twice a year in the months of November and May.

Fee will be announced at the time of admission opening.
