AFIP Rawalpindi is offering MPhil Programmes in various disciplines of Pathology since 1985. Previously MPhil at AFIP was affiliated with AFPGMI and UHS Lahore. Both institutes followed annual system of education. Since the inception of NUMS, a requirement was felt to convert the MPhil programmes to ‘Semester System’. At present MPhil programmes are of two years consisting of four semesters. Following MPhil programmes are being run at AFIP with the affiliation of NUMS:
1. MPhil Chemical Pathology
2. MPhil Microbiology
3. MPhil Oral Pathology

-   Admission Process
a) A candidate holding sixteen years of schooling in the relevant field shall be eligible for admission to M.Phil Program in the concerned discipline according to criteria prescribed by NUMS. It shall be candidate's own responsibility to get the equivalence established through Pakistan Medical and Dental Council(PM&DC)/Higher Education Commission (HEC), if required.
b) The GAT-General conducted by the National Testing Service with a minimum of 50% cumulative score valid for six months.
1. Schedule of admissions is advertised on NUMS website (www.numspak.edu.pk) and in leading national dailies.
2. Each candidate shall make an application to NUMS for admission in response to advertisements appearing in the press, on the prescribed application form. Pre-requisites for eligibility of candidates for admission shall be announced through the NUMS Website and leading dailies.
3. Serving candidates and candidates who are employed in government colleges/institutes will have to obtain permission from competent authority and NOC from their departments.
4. A student whose registration in any academic program has been cancelled due to disciplinary grounds, and has been withdrawn is not eligible to apply again for any degree program.
(a) At the beginning of the program, every student shall register with NUMS and PM&DC (MBBS/ BDS degree holders).
(b) The Registration Branch shall issue registration cards to respective
Colleges/Institutions for handing over to the individual students.
(c) A candidate shall be admitted in the Final/End Semester examination of the University as a regular student, only if he fulfils the following conditions:
(i) Must be registered in the University; and
(ii) Must have kept the minimum of percentage of attendance (75%) in each subject, as laid down in the rules.
(d) Student cannot register in two programs in same or different University/Institution simultaneously. In case any student is already registered in some program in any other University/Institution; he/she must surrender the previous registration before commencement of the degree program.
Advertisement for admission in MPhil programme is advertised in October and applications are processed in the month of November. Test/Interview are conducted in December. Classes are started in January.
Fee will be announced at the time of admission opening.
