National External Quality Assurance Programme
The objective of a NEQAPP’s Histopathology quality assurance programme is to ensure the completeness and accuracy of a histopathology report.Completeness of a histopathology report means that information provided in the report should not simply be the diagnosis, but should also include pathological features of prognostic and therapeutic importance.
Through this programme external quality assurance is done of pathology labs where Histopathology is being practiced. Unstained slides of two diagnosed cases are sent to participating labs for H&E staining and opinion/diagnosis of the specific cases. After performing analysis and staining labs return these slides alongwith their analysis report to AFIP, for assessment of staining and diagnostic accuracy. Hence a nationwide quality assurance is achieved at centralized level at AFIP for better diagnostic services.
